Hawaii (I) — Tacos and Mermaids

Hello, we’re back!  The header today is a cross-section of an amazing fish taco we I had in Kapa’a on Kauai at a place called Mermaids Cafe.  It’s unfair to say “we,” as I don’t believe Mr. Food had a bite of that first taco– though the second day when we went back for lunch, he did.  For dinner he was too busy with his ahi nori wrap and I probably was fending off his fork with my messy, taco-dripping-fingers.  The fish was local and so were the avocados.  I don’t know what they did for seasonings but it was fantastic– lime juice? curry? cumin? We couldn’t tell, even the second time around.   The lemonade, this much is sure, was enrose-d with hibiscus.

Next installment: Malasadas and rainbows or snorkeling and shrimp trucks?  We’ll see.

  1. Mmm…sounds so good! Maybe you can try and reproduce the tacos for me? And I can’t believe you got to go where the avocados live!

Fish tacos and Kapa’a…a perfect combination! I don’t know how we missed Mermaids Cafe when we were there, though. Sounds divine 🙂

  3. Yea, you’re back! I can’t wait to read more about your exploits, especially sampling the beloved malasadas as I somehow repeatedly missed my opportunity to give one a go.
